Hello Everybody from a noobie here !!!!

Post by Jay H »

Greetings to all my fellow checker playing fraternity !!!!!
I want to offer an esceptionally BIG thanx to President Millhone for his personal assistance in getting me registered...THANX ALAN !!!
My true name is Jay Hinner s h i t z, but I was ( I believe) having trouble with the filtering, since my surname contains a vulgarity...(guess I have to blame my father for that...lol).
Anyway, I am a player/collector. I love reading about checker history, collecting books, boards, checkers, etc., studying games and problems, and playing.........

My only problem is that I am not a very good player....(!) But, I consider this game to be the ultimate mental challenge....!!! And, my inability to get to the next level, (above beginner...lol) makes me respect the master players EVEN MORE !!!! You are all my heroes !!
It is an honor and privilege to be here !!!!
I am, respectfully,
Jay Hinner s h i t z

Don,
I had spoken with Fernie twice during visits to Earl Hangen's home back in the late eighties, and had played him twice in the D-3 mail tourney, but had not met him in person.....
I had dropped out of the game for a very long time, and it was during this time that Fernie passed.
On the subject of Fernie.....I have just recently been to a local auction in the middle of PA Dutch Amishland, where, every Friday they gather to play checkers, litterally across a barrel, and won a few games. When they asked me if I have played before, I told them that was formerly an ACF member, and they asked me if I knew of a Fernie Moffett......

Fernie is still VERY MUCH a legend in Lancaster County..... On my next visit, I am going to take my copy of the local newspaper article that featured Fernie years ago, as I am sure they would live to see that....
Have you seen it,...?
If not, I can scan and send it to you....
Let me kniw

 Jay during the early 1990's my dear friends Louis Cowie (many times Ohio State Checker Champion) and Tony Kozenski (Pa. State Checker Champion deluxe) and I travelled (I drove because Louis was looking for ameobas along the roadside) together to College Station, Pa. for the Pa. State Checker Tournament. We roomed each time with Fernie who had many interesting stories to tell about the old checker players and about his once being a professional wrestler, etc. so I got to know him pretty well. When Fernie retired as Secretary of the Pa. Checker Association he named me to take over even though I lived in Iowa, but I was in Pa. so often (looking for checker memorabilia for our museum) that you mght as well say that I was a resident of Pa. Every Thursday evening I would visit the Lawrence County Chess and Checker Club to play checkers and visit my good friend Tony. Alex later attended that same club. "Mr. Checkers

Friends,
Well, I have tried to scan and post, no luck.....I will have to wait until my computer whiz son comes home, and then I will try to post some checker related pics....
What is so hard for me, is so very easy to him....

Jay, you should be able to post the article under CHECKER SHARING. I guess there is a trick to it because I also have never been able to successfully submit a post there.

Pal,
I will move in that direction thanx for the guidance !!!.... I also found something I wanted to scan for you, from the March 1931 Indiana Checker Bulletin, an article (full page) on Lee Munger's victory in the State Tourney that year...., very interesting,.....have you ever seen it ?.... If you have already, I won't fry my brain trying to figure out how to scan and post it.....if interested, let me know...
Thanx

Pal,
My son, who is very adapt at internet posting, is at his high school trak meet, he will be home very shortly, ....when he is home, I will have him review these forum policies, rules, regulations and protocols, and have him school me, and I will then post pictures, pages, etc.......
It has been my desire to contribute to this forum in this manner for a long time, and as I have stated, I consider it a privilege to be able to post, and converse with all the forumites, ( such as yourself), and I look forward to contributing here for as long as possible.....
Thanx again Pal...!!!!!
