Strawberry TN

Post by Michael Holmes »

I should know next week if I will be able to play in this fine tourney. I will most likely be able to and I will also bring my son.

Today I received in regular mail a letter from Mr. Burton who doesn't have an Internet access. He gave me an additional information about Strawberry Festival Ty. and asked to put it in Internet.

He wrote:

"These motels are only fifteen minutes to where we will have our "Humboldt Strawberry Festival Ty". They are located at the Intersection of I-40 Interstate and 45-By-Pass at Jackson, TN

1. Comfort Inn, $49.95, 731-668-4100

2. Days Inn, $39.95, Ph. 731-668-3444

3. Casey Jones Station Inn, $36.99 (single), $39.95 (double), Ph. 731-668-3636

Mr. Burton also mentioned that there will be $2,500 cash price and $1,000 door prizes and these numbers set a new high record for Strawberry ty's.

I just made my reservation in Days Inn and got a fine rate $39.95 only per night! Few rooms are still available but Mr. Burton mentioned that this number is limited.

Sincerely,

Tournament

Post by Michael Holmes »

It is a shame I can not go to this tourney. I know the turn-out will be high and I have always enjoyed playing at this tourney. I suspect that this will also be one of the biggest turnouts for this tourney too. Thanks to Mr. Burton and others who have worked hard at promoting this event for checkers. The last I heard was that Larry Keen was going to help with this promotion.
Best wishes,
Michael Holmes

Greetings tommyc,

"Its an absolute credit that Alex M. has attended so many Tys I just hope its appreciated...it must be a record !!!"

There is no doubt that if Mr. Moiseyev continues his pace, he will go down in history as the most active World Champion in the history of this game....
Already a legend......well deserved...!!!!

It is Monday midnight and I just came back home ! It took more than 48 hours for me to get there, because my car was stopped on the road just 80 miles after Jackson - due to engine damage. "AAA" brought the car to the nearest shop and repair place, but engine mechanic was on duty only on Monday, and I stayed in some motel Saturday and Sunday.

Today mechanic looked at car and said - it will take a several days for him to fix everything, and I used a Greyhound bus to come home to Columbus.

I still have to go back to Nashiville next weekend to pay and take my car.

About checkers

Larry Keen played very, extremelly well this ty and gave me a serious and real competetion. 3 times he was ahead me in points, and only my victory in round 6 against him gave me a final lead.

Patrick guess is correct - in lthe last round I've got 3 points over Clayton Nash, and L. Keen played two draws with John Estes - TN State Champ. Final standing of first 3 players was:

Moiseyev - 20
Keen - 18
Nash - 17

It would be also important and proper to say that Clayton Nash had me in lost in our earlier round but I was lucky to escape.

I left my notebook with games in the car, but maybe Clay publish it here.

Sincerely,

Alex

Alex,

I'm sorry to hear that you had car problems, Too bad the car didn't breakdown closer to you being home, anyway I congratulate you on your victory. I guess it's a good thing the car didn't give out before you reached Humboldt and cause you to miss the tourney in addition to having the car problems.

 A moment to remember!! We will always remember the day when Alex came visit our home--he had travelled hundreds of miles and he only had a few hours of sleep before he left to returned home. When he went to leave his little white car was all but sitting on the ground due to all of the checker knowledge that he had stored inside it. Our relief came when we heard that he had made it back home safely. We did a lot of praying that day. Ms. Becky & "Mr. Checkers"
