Pro Checkers Game

Post by liam stephens »

Hi Pal,

Your design for the Pro Checkers Board looks fine and the other algebraic boards look ugly in comparison. I have two folding boards from the Checker Hall of Fame in 1984 , signed on the
squares by the players of both teams

One little alteration to the board shown would be smaller numbers and NOT in the centre where the piece would cover it, but in the corners of the square
Of course you are 100 percent correct Tommy, these are boards I ripped off of web images for illustration only, they are just the best I could find, not perfect by any means.

It would be totally impracticable to change now from the numeric to an algebraic system,.......We have the 1 to 32 numeric system, for better or worse...
I totally agree with you Liam, that is exactly the point I was trying to get across, you said it much better than I ever could have.

Its sad the return on this topic is minimal, do we take it that the powers that be within the ACF or the WCDF have no opinion or just dont care??.

On the other hand there is no rule on boards numbered or otherwise so maybe thats the reason!!.
Always read "Cannings Compilation 2nd Edition" every day.

Both systems - coordination in Russian checkers and chess, or numeric - in English draughst and 10x10 are OK and it's just only matter of historical traditions. I don't see any serious advantages or disadvantages one against other. I learned each of them in few days (one at 7 years old and another one at 37  ) and don't have much problems remembering both and using both.

If anyone has problems with translation - let me know.

Sincerely,

Alex

Greetings All,

"Having Alex on the box would be good, Tom Wiswell, the GAYP Champion did that in the 60s. Wouldnt it be nice to have a vinyl roll up board with checker notation instead of algebraic!!!! You know if the Pro checkers came with a simple primer by Alex that would be good too. "

Not pushing the sale, but here is one of them Wiswell boards currently on Ebay.

I think it is a great idea to have the current world champion endorse a board...!!!! I have a checker variant called "mega-checkers" that was endorsed by Tinsley, along with Patty Breen and Brian Lucas, (anybody else remember this ?)and I purchased this only because it was endorsed by them.

I would love to see this product/project materialize ...!!!

See "Antique boards" under the "Checker sharing" topic for pictures of the Parker Brothers board and checkers from many years ago.

I would post them here, but prefer not to be redundant.
