Boland's Familiar Themes came out with a black, blue or brown hardcover. If you have a green paperback edition--that is a reprint. The original paperback had a very colorful cover on it. "Inky"

Keep checking back, as I have more I will post every few days...... and if you have some of your own,scan em' and post em' ! I would love to see them !!!! ( Liam has contributed a wonderful piece of Checkers history..!!!) I know for "High Grade" collectors, the writings, sigs, notes, etc. are probably something detrimental to their cause i.e, preserving mint copies of books,...... But I thought a good thread would be to showcase the the "battle worn" copies, signed and used.......books that wear their "history on their sleeve", so to speak.
Jay over the past 30 years I have never erased the signatures in any of my books because those were an important part of its history. And you could trace the movement of just one book from one library to another by just having those signatures available to you. Some of our books we could trace back for over 100 years as they moved from one collection to another. If a book appeared in to mint of condition that told you that it was not used very often vs. a book that had a lot of notes written in the margins was probably used a lot. Certain signatures greatly increase the value of the book or manuscript. As I recall Alan paid around $200 for an 1859 manuscript signed by John Drummond a few years ago. "Mr. Checkers"

Hi Jay, I also have a copy of this book, signed on the cover by Marion Tinsley and Charles Walker, but it is from the time of the 1983 international match GBI v USA. Inside the cover several of the participants have also signed it.
The Tinsley signature is remarkably similar to that on your copy, though, of course, that does not necessarily prove it was signed at the same time.
Jay it sounds to me like you are in the very early stages of being addicted to checker memorabilia. If not treated soon it may become a very serious addiction indeed--and at the present time there is no known cure for it. "Mr. Checkers"

My copy of Kear's Encyclopedia has Leonard G. Friel's signature, dated October 31, 1950 - "All corrections and improvements in supplement have been printed in text"
