Re: 2007 PA State / District 3 results
Thats very unfortunate to hear for Tony, he is a wonderful man.
Congratulation Alex and to Billy.
I had planned on coming this year (at least to watch, since i've not played any games in roughly 2 years), but things came up and i was not able to make the trip across the state. It's dissapointing, as i could have given Alex his 4th point rather than a bye
.
Really though, i would have liked to come because i haven't seen these good friends in a long time since they welcomed me in my first tournament in State College several years ago.

how can you say that the pa. st. checker assoc. never had control of this money!!! i'm sure it was not left to the calwell-windt library of checkers!!! since dr.beckwith is now running the tourney i believe a financial report should be sent to him at once.it is unthinkable not to have at least 3 trustees on a trust fund.

R. Beckwith vs A. Moiseyev
Rd. 3, G1
Diagram #3.
Red to move
9-13 24-20 6-9 28-24 11-15 23-18 1-6 (A) 18x11 8x15 22-17 13x22 25x11 7x16 20x11 3-8 11-7 2x11 27-23 11-16 24-19 10-14 26-22 8-11 30-26 4-8 22-18 6-10 29-25 16-20 26-22 20-24 32-27 24-28 18-15 11x18 22x6 28-32 25-22 14-18 22x15 9-14 15-11 8x24 27x20 White Wins
A). See diagram #3. No comments to this move, 1-6???

White to move .......................... White to move
9-13 24-20 6-9 22-18 (A) 11-16 20x11 8x22 25x18 4-8 28-24 8-11 29-25 10-15 25-22 7-10 (B) 24-20 (C) 12-16 (D) 27-24 10-14 23-19 (E) 16x23 26x10 14x23 31-26 2-7 26x19 7x14 30-25 1-6 (F) 32-28 3-7 19-15 11x18 22x15 (G) 14-18 20-16 18-23 15-11 7-10 11-7 23-26 7-3 26-31 3-8 31-27 24-20 27-23 28-24 10-14 8-11 13-17 24-19 23-27 Draw
A). As good as 28-24, both well known and covered in PP. However in my opinion 28-24 is more tricky move which leads eventually into more complicated formations.
B). 9-14 is OK but gives white a good choice of various replies.
C). Or more restrictive 23-19 9-14 18x9 5x14 26-23 2-7 30-26 14-17 21x14 10x17 19x10 14. 7x14 24-19 etc. Draw
D). Very aggressive move but gains nothing if met properly. Another alternative possibility here is 3-7.
E). See diagram #4 before 23-19. Of course white can't play here 32-28? because of shot 14-17 etc. However 23-19 is certainly not the best move here giving red some edge. Larry Keen played in this position against me 21-17 14-21 32-28 etc. to draw which I consider as best here.
F). See diagram #5. 19-16 loses by 14-18!
G). Now into interesting ending, where red tries to catch a man on 25. Richard played it very well avoiding all my tricks and "fouling around" and finally draw was agreed
More later ... Stay with me
Sincerely,
Alex Moiseyev

I seen our game posted, Alex to be honest I have no idea what in the world I was thinking. I dont really have a excuse but it bummed me out big time to know what I could of accomplished. I do know I was really nervous those particular games if that counts for anything. Billy R

Re: 2007 PA State / District 3 results
He already explained - as a treasury officer of PA Chk Assoc he used lawyer service and transfered money from trust account of PA bank to his library in Iowa. Now money are gone from PA.
That was done in behalf and interest of PA Chk Assoc. and we have to thank him for this.

I appreciate Billy's recent message (in another post) that Tony Kozenski is doing a little bit better.
As a point of clarification to the above, I do not receive (nor have ever seen) financial reports of the trust fund since it was relocated; I just knew only general information about management of fund and interest being sent to annual PA tournament. I agree the previous bank was stripping the fund dry with fees

L. Cowie vs A. Moiseyev
Rd. 4, G1
Diagram #6.

Red to move.
In position on diagram #6 Mr. Cowie played 7-11? and lost after 18-14, 11-16, 22-18 etc. Draw was available after 7-10*, 18-14, 2-7, 14-9, 7-11 etc. Draw
S. Holliday vs A. Moiseyev
Rd. 6, G1
Diagram #7.

Red to move
In position on diagram #7 my worthy opponent, more than 50 years "B" class player, Steve Holliday played 3-8? and ... game is over ! After 23-27 as played in the game, either 2-7 or 11-16 don't help much. Instead losing 3-8, 9-14 should save the game.
A. Moiseyev vs S. Holliday
Rd. 6, G2
Diagram #8.

White to move and draw
Very instructive ending ! Steve played here wasting 28-24? and eventually lost after 13-17 etc. Draw is pretty. White now has to neutralise the power of the coming second red King and take an advantage on having move:
11-15* , 13-17, 15-10, 17-22, 10-14, 22-25, 14-17, 25-30, 17-22* (17-21? loses after 18-23) ... etc Draw
More later, stay with me.
Sincerely,
Alex Moiseyev
