2Ed Gilbert:
Hi, Ed !
Currently I am annotating selected games for the 8th International Match Book In one game I comeup with very interesting position, where my 8 pieces Nemesis database was unable to provide a proved solution at reasonable time. See diagram #1 below. Due to security of information, I can't give you the name of players and round - people can get this information later, when buy the book.
I am asking your help for correct verdict in this position: do red has a draw after 3-8 ?
In real game red played 19-24 and lost immediately. It is also almost obvious, that next play should be: 3-8 32-28 8-12 21-17 7-10 9-6 19-24 28-19 15-24 6-2 10-15 ... see diagram #2 But after this uncertaincy in program research grows tremendously
#1. Red to move
#2. White to move
For those who is interested - so far, from 30 match games I came across, this is first time, when my Nemsis with 8 pieces database was unable to solve position at reasonable time. In almost each game I annotated - something interesting and excited happened, and personally I would recommend everyone to order this book. You will find alot more positions like this, in the book

Hi Alex,
The position is a draw. After your list of moves, the play continues with 17-14 24-28 14-10 28-32 10-7 32-28 7-3 15-19 22-18 28-24 26-23 xx and into a 10-piece draw.

Fantastic, this beat my expectations ! I thought - white should have a technical win here. On any practical consideration red position must be considered as complete lost, but ...
I already putted preliminary comments to my annotations, that previous red move in game loses, and now I have to rewrite it !
Many thanks, Ed, for quick response and help !
