Bickering
"The love of money is the root of all evil". The Bible says it, I believe it. We all need money to conduct transactions in our daily lives. However, it seems that some are able to give up friendships that have been held for years, just so they can have some say over money. This is in reference to the PA trust fund. I personally belive that Don Deweber had the funds trasfered to his account so that money would not lost to trust account maintenance. This is what diminished the original $10,000. I could care less who controls the money as long as the best interest rate is gotten. It pains me greatly to see friends becoming enemies over a small amouint of money and also that there are so many people who seem to want control of it. I was secretary/treasurer of the North Dakota Checker Association for over 25 years and we never had such problems during that time or during the previous administration of Francis Lee. NEIL WENBERG

I have not seen anything posted on this issue in awhile....
I am going to throw my two cents in....
First,
For those who are not familiar with Mr. Frank's position , checkeristically, in PA....
I have scan and posted some articles....
From the November 1966 issue of Pen. SCAN, an insert added after the issue was printed and ready for mailing......
Page 1

Page 2

And from the October 1967 issue of The Keystone Review

I have never attended a PA. Checker Tourney.(it is my wish to do so in the future).
However, I was aware of the "Frank Fund" from the first time I met Earl Hangen, back in 1985. We had kicked around the idea of attending, but I could never talk Earl into making the drive.
Anyway, from reading these , it is easy to discern that what Mr. Frank wanted was a three move tourney in State College, that would be funded with the interest from his $10,000.oo endowment.
" THE MEMORIAL FUND LEFT BY DAN FRANK WILL BE IN EFFECT FOREVER AND FOREVER."
IMHO, I don't believe the issue of who controlled the fund, or who handed the money out, etc., etc., was as important as the fact that the money would always be available....
And, the money is still available.
My concern is that there have been postings to the effect that the money should be purposely ignored, and left to sit for a period of time so that by default, it would end up funding something else.
It has been a long time since the passing of Mr. Frank.......and he is probably rolling in his grave , due to actions and counter actions regarding his endowment, and knowing that the one thing that he did by his passing, that (I believe) he was SURE would benefit the checker playing fraternity, has caused so much distress among fellow checkerists.
This is the true tragedy here......

Hi Neil, Yes you are right the Pa funds did create alot of hardships. But it is a big deal no matter how you look at it. Well its not alot of money but its not chump change also. I dont think anyone was fighting to control the funds at least from what I seen on the post. It was mainly about getting the funds back. It has been awhile since Mr Checkers has posted it will be nice to hear what he has to say about all of this. Maybe instead of e mailing me question marks he can defend himself on the forum. Billy
Re: Bickering
neil-doesn't care about the money except that the best interest rate is gotten-i am more concern that the principle is not lost !!! irma-this may not be political correct -but this is a us problem not a mexican problem jay-thanks for pointing out the wishes of daniel frank he is the looser in this mess
Re: Bickering
absurd mexican saying
Re: Bickering
Hey Irma, I never asked to be in control over money or be in control over anything in that aspect. So stop being so damn dumb and actually read what I post. I simply said to Neil that money is a big deal and something to stress over. We are talking at least 8 grand and thats the topic so keep on that topic and dont worry so much about me. Nobody feels sorry for you so give it up and stick to the main topics. Billy

Bickering & Missing the 'Mark"
Hello Everyone:
Many of you are missing the point on the Pa. Fund . The name calling needs to stop ! I have more information coming (facts) and will post same when in my hands. Many of you are reacting to emotion an not logic. The ACF is named in one of the Pa. papers and that is why I am doing research on this matter. I have received many private messages/emails and many of us have caused a lot of damage by all the bickering and name calling and insults. My intention is to get to the bottom of the deweber trust fund and to see if in fact it was legally moved. It would be nice for Mr. Deweber to appear on the forum and explain and face his accusers and get this matter resolved. So for now let us please stop all name calling and just concentrate on the facts as they arrive and are presented.
Sincerely:
Alan Millhone, President

It is also very painful for me to read all this story, because I used to be a PA resident for more than 10 years and played in all PA ty's 1997-2007.
Pity ...
Sincerely,
Alex
And now the World Champion !!!!!
No bickering or name calling here....
Just thought you might like to know Alex, everytime I am trying to educate my family and friends to the challenge of the game of Checkers, I always mention that there is a World Champion , and that the current World Champion used to live in PA., and this always manages to get a few oohhs and aahhs and reeeally's ???? ..... !!

My relations with PA
Hi, Jay !
Yes, I lived in Pittsburgh with my family from September 1992 until February 2003 when my house in Cranberry (Pittsburgh suburb) was sold. Two of my "American kids" were born here in Magee Hospital in 1995 and 1999. My old son Michael (24) was graduated in Carnegie Mellon University.
All after all, today I am still an employee of PNC BANK since 1998, Pittsburgh based company and continue to commute to Pittsburgh from Columbus or Cincinnati every day. I continue to visit my Pittsburgh office 1-2 times a months for important meetings and celebrations.
Hence, my wife and old son still care a valid PA license even though she lives in OH and he lives in NY !
My relations with PA remain to be very strong and active today, and everything happened with PA Fund grab my full and undivided attention.
After I moved to Ohio, I established a "permanent rotated trophy" known as "Alex trophy" for PA State Checkers Champion.
I was a major receiver
of good portion of Frank Fund before it changed hands and Deweber Fund after changing the title. It is important fact for me that my long time friend Tony Kozenski was completely unaware of this transaction and everything was done "behind" him and keeping him in the dark. I can't accept this in my heart and probably never will.
With all good wishes - save principal from maintenance fee - it is less important for me than the fact money change hands and title without prior notification of checkers fraternity.
Sincerely,
Alex Moiseyev

Greetings Jolt,
Obviously, we operate within different social circles.... my friends and family, when I explain the game as we know it say....."hmmmmm, very interesting" or "Really, I did not know that".
Maybe it is your approach...
......and, if you look at the picture of the writer of the post directly above this one, there is the face of all the competition you could possibly need, plus some !!!

This "probability" is "probably" (?)one of the reasons ( I believe) Alan feels compelled to investigate this, since, somehow, this money ended up with an ACF flag on it, and it now falls within Alan's jurisdiction to investigate.....maybe we'll find out when Alan reveals the final results of his investigation.
Seriously, there are now waaayyyy tooooo many eyes on this fund for it to disappear in such a manner at this late stage of the game....
But, it is always a pleasure reading your posts......looking forward to more.
Regards

Re: Bickering
Greetings Alex,
Thanx for the short Bio on your stay in PA. I remember a few years ago when Earl Hangen Told me that you lived in PA, but I did not know the dates.
.....Of course, whenever I do mention that you, (being the World Champ) at one time lived in PA, most will ask me if I have ever met and/or played you....
I tell them no, but it is my desire to do so.....
And, I would personally like to meet you at a PA. State Checker Tourney, whose prizes are funded with the interest from the Dan Frank endowment, as has been the PA tradition, since the late 1960's.
I understand your feelings regarding the fund, and you have already stated in a previous post that you would not attend any tourneys with prizes funded with the existing (current)version of Frank's fund.
However, I have all the confidence in the world that this will be resolved in a manner that pleases everyone.....it will take some understanding, probably lots of open communication, maybe a few people will even have to swallow a little pride til it is all said and done.....
Mr. Frank was a great benefactor to the game here in PA. It states in the eulogy posted at the top of this thred that he was voted in 1965 the man who did most for Checkers in PA.
I, as a fellow checkerist, would just ask you to please consider this thought.....
It would probably break Dan Frank's heart to know that the current World Champion was refusing to participate in a tourney with prizes he funded, because of the actions of someone else.....
