Goldtoken

Post by kiwinurse »

Im becoming more and more frustrated with the length its taking to play on goldtoken, i understand theres been some kind of attack on it,but it must be into the third week that the slowness to log on and get on the site has been occurring, and its getting worse. Playing games take ages for each move. Is something being done about it?

Yes, as noted in site news and on the GoldToken Group at http://groups.msn.com/Goldtoken-com/, something is being done about it. Chad is currently writing script that will help block this type of DOS Attack, eliminating moduals that were being directly attacked, scheduling the loading of lighttpd (a lighter weight web server that is becoming very popular and less vulnerable than Apache), and we are banning the IP's involved. Already, it has made a huge difference. Yahoo has also been under attack the last few weeks and is having much the same troubles. It is not uncommon for any large site to have to deal with server attacks. The trouble with the current attack is it was not a type that we were used to and had already taken measures against. Just like a virus, there are new types out all the time. At first, not even our hosting company recognized what it was. In fact, they have been working diligently with us to resolve the issues and were the ones to notify me late this week that it was a new type of DOS Attack.

I do understand your frustrations. Believe me, I am every bit as frustrated. New code takes time to write, test and implement. And since it involved the servers directly, Chad has to write and load the needed fixes. Since he has a family, a full time job, serves as an elder in his church, and goes to school, we only have his services late in the evenings. Meanwhile, the hosting company is doing everything they can to find a resolution to blocking the server attacks. Thank you for your patience and understanding. All should be well soon!
