Match Book Covers-Sports Cards"--answer

Post by Mr. Checkers »

 Most of you are familiar with both of these and some of you may even collect them. "Checker Trivia question of the Day"? What checker titans picture appears most often on them? "Inky" (cont. but when I do not know)

Just found this on ebay!! item 110093567625 is a Newell Banks trading card (I never even knew it existed) Wouldn't it be great if we had Marion Tinsley, Asa Long, Walter Hellman, Willie Ryan, Tom Wiswell, Ken Grover, Alex Moiseyev, Alan Millnone, etc. trading cards?

 No checker player living or dead has ever had his picture on a box of "Wheaties". Newell Banks picture has appeared on the Spalding Sports cards series. Millard Hopper and Tom Wiswell pictures have appeared on several different postcards. Asa Longs picture has appeared on several different photo cards. Alex's picture was the first of a world champion to appear on this checker website, but not the first world champion to have his picture to appear on the internet. Others checker players have had their pictures on advertising trading cards that were put out by different companies i.e. tobacco etc. Now you have found one sports card checker titan, but have not yet mentioned the checker player whose picture appears on a match book cover? "Inky" (cont.)

I have a lot of match books, and many of them have pictures of players on the cover, "International Checkers and Draughts" for one.

"Pardon me, do you have a match?"
"I use a lighter"
"Better still"
"Until they go wrong".
