Nebraska Open - Lloyd Mills
The latest Nebraska State checker tournament drew only 10 competitors and the youngest was sixty two. John Pestal (retired Omaha barber is seventy five) trimmed all other competitors to take 1st place and he is the latest winner of the Lloyd Mills Nebraska State Trophy, signifying the winner of the annual state checkers championship.
What year are you talking about? 2006 - 2005 -2004. This ty is played in the fall, usually in Oct or Nov. "Latest" would indicate 2006, but Rev Oliver won that year.

2003 Nebraska Open
What if they held a Nebraska state checkers championship and no one came?" I checked with the Omaha World-Herald and they told me that it was written in 2003
You are right, only 4 Entrants that year.
