Double Corner on the wrong side

Post by Pedro Saavedra »

Anybody been to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Museum? A firend of mine just went and sent a whole bunch of pictures. In one, some airmen were depicted in a recreation room, and there was a checker set. And, yes, the double corner was to the left and not the right. I am always annoyed by such mistakes (like when the white square is on the left cormer in chess, or the Queen to the right of the King for the White player). I have the picture in an e-mail (I am not sure how to upload the picture) and permission from the photographer to post it anywhere. Of course my friends think I am crazy to care about such things.

I have seen all sorts of other pictures, figurines and the like where a checker set is depicted with the double corner on the wrong side. I am glad they want to present a checker set, but can't they get the setup straight?

It's not exactly rocket science, or is it?

Personally, I just filp a coin.
(not unlike most artist)
I get it right half of the time, the
rest of the time I get it on the left.

What do you like about checkers?: Its minimalist beauty and economy of force.

I live in Dayton and worked at Wright-Pat and have been to the Air Force Museum many, many times. If I can find the exhibit which contains the checkers set and bring it to the attention of museum personnel they will correct it in a heartbeat. The museum staff is interested in accuracy above almost everything else. An email to the museum would probably do the trick.

The Air Force Museum is a huge, absolutely unique, fascinating place which really requires more than a couple of days to appreciate properly. Nothing else like it in all the world. It's worth a trip to Dayton OH (home of the Wright Brothers...but I'm sure everybody knows that...) just to see it (even if you are not particualrly interested in the history of aviation...). There is a lot to see, it's open every day except Christmas, and it's free; how could it be any better than that??

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot: there is a terrific gift shop as well... .

Greetings:

I also have OCD.

For the past several years, I have been trying to get this acronym changed to CDO.

This puts the letters in their proper alphabaetical order.

Best Wishes,

The picture is not on their website. It was taken by my friend and scanned and then e-mailed to me (along with a dozen other pictures). I deleted the others and have an e-mail reasy to go.

Pedro, all you need - save picture from email on your computer and then upload it to their website. I can do this for you, but want you to do on your own - this is very valuable feature and really take few mins to do this.

Thanks Pedro and Pal! I know exactly where that is, but the last time I was there they did not have the checker board (or I didn't notice it or don't remember it, which is highly unlikely).

Anyhow, I'll try and stop by the museum next week with a printout of this thread and tell them of the error...I have no doubt they will change it.

I might donate an early copy of Lees' Guide to display on the table next to the board for a little extra authenticity.

We'll see what happens.
