THINK TANK

Post by Danny_Alvarez »

I personally believe we should start bouncing ideas around to better our game (not necessarily promote it) so the doers have a platform from where to start to work.
I dont want us to go at each other's throats, just an exchange of ideas so something good may come of it.

I have mentioned a THINK TANK b4 and now i see that i am in illustrious company and two other people have mentioned this b4 ....
How about we do it? just a mere thought. Let me know what you think.

JR....... The ACF needs a 'think tank' of really interested people who can look for sponsors in a active way. They are out there and no one has ever taken the time nor the interest to go look for them ! I have received numerous suggestions as to where I should look, but few offers of actual help. This 'think tank' may even include a few individuals outside of our game who can help us in our search. I am just one person and just so much time and am asking for assistance . Let me know if you have ideas and an interest to actively help.

- Yeaaa ... but what will be your part of deal ?
- Just an idea !
I am playing checkers, not chess.

What do you like about checkers?: Love the elegance of the game and the old manuals and books that can be collected on the game.

How are you going to create a "think tank" with people from all parts of the world through the internet? In order to firmly establish something, you need face to face communication. First you need to promote in your own country, maybe get enough members to establish some sort of club and from there, the various clubs around the world can form their various "think tanks" to help the game. Promoting the game is not easy but the idea of "think tank" won't get you anywhere, its impractical, unrealistic.

As some day it may happen that a victim must be found,
I've got a little list--I've got a little list
Of society offenders who might well be underground,
And who never would be missed--who never would be missed!
There's the pestilential nuisances who insist on playing blitz,
They'd none of them be missed---they'd none of them be missed!

The Mikado - W.S. Gilbert (with apologies, of course...)

We can put that in the Tank and think about it! Ho, ho, ho.

Jason I would have to disagree.... we are exchanging ideas right now and i have never seen your face and you wouldnt want to see mine :). I would like to see if anyone else is interested in exchanging ideas, where that will get us is another matter. Like i said i am not the first person to propose the idea.

If someone feels so strong against it, fine. Nobody will force you to participate.

if someone is interested i would like to know, msg me , email me, let me know please.

Alex, this is my reply.... i won't say anything except to quote a tale told to me by my grandmother.... i think it says it all.

Day after day, a foreigner visiting Argentina watched a crab fisherman ply his trade. His routine was ordinary and predictable. Each day he rowed to his pots, emptied them into the boat, and returned them to the water, hoping for another good catch.
However ordinary his routine, his traps were extraordinary. They had no top. Bemused by this topless crab trap and curious how such a trap could keep crabs from escaping, the visitor finally questioned the fisherman. “You caught many crabs today,” he said. The old man agreed. “I’ve been all over the world,” the visitor continued, “but I’ve never seen a fisherman use a trap without a top. How can it be that your trap works? With no top, how do you keep the crabs inside?”
“I need no top on my crab trap,” the old man explained with a smile. ”These are Argentine crabs.” The befuddled visitor seemed not to understand. “ARGENTINE crabs?”, he asked. “Yes,” replied the old man. “Argentine crabs. When one crab tries to climb out of the trap, the rest pull him back in.”

I always thought a great sponsor would be Disney. Considering checkers in this day in age is considered a childrens game I figured they would be great sponsors. The problem is that sponsors want to sponsor in order to promote themselves and checkers does not being enough eyes. Now if Disney sponsored the game they could book a lot of trips to Disney world from kids who wanted to participate all over the country. We just need a silver tongue devil to solicit this idea.

Our biggest problem is that society has NO IDEA that checkers federations exist or that we have tournaments. We need online advertising, big money tournaments, and prizes. Problem is we need baby steps to accomplish this 180 for checkers. There are many players online at multiple websites as a good start. How do we take those players from playing because they are bored to playing as a hobby and getting serious?

Another issue is that people aren't as optimists. Someone could play checkers online but they know they will not be one of the best and people don't to be second. I have shown many people that checkers is not an easy kids game but the only thing I accomplished from this was seeing people realize that they wouldn't be able to compete without A LOT of work.

So we have to look at successful games like ours... Chess for example is very successful. Not knowing how to play chess is like not knowing how to swim or ride a bike. Although most players do not play at a professional level.... at least they are there and support the game. This game is taught from father to son in most cases. What happened with checkers??????????? I am not old enough to know unfortunately.

I have said many times that the lack of knowledge of our games right now is an advantage given that people would give it a try thinking it is easy. Once they give it a try some will get hooked. These are my ideas and I have many more. It does not necessarily require everyone to help but only a few dedicated people to get things moving along

Eric I agree totally that we do not need everyone to help, but only a few to get things moving along.
I know we have different perspectives in a lot of issues, but honestly i am interested in listening to any ideas you may have and anyone else as well.
I think when we exchange ideas they get a little more polished from input from others and eventually (with lots of hard work, lots of patience, and a little luck) they can become something more than an idea.
