Here is some further information:

"In Winning the title (1965) Mr. R. E. Chamberlain took his tally of Australian Championship wins to five, equalling the record held by J Boyles and the late Hugh Egan.
Mr. Chamberlain competed in his first Australian Championship in 1938, when he performed very creditably, just missing a place among the prizewinners. At the time he was only 16 years of age.He could well have been the youngest player to compete in a national tourney anywhere in the world. Certainly he is the youngest to have competed in an Australian Championship. In 1939, he won his first NSW State Championship.
Because of the war, the next Australian Championship was not held until 1948, when Sydney was the venue, and Mr. Chamberlain won the title for the first time. At Brisbane in 1950, he took the Winners’ Final but, for business reasons, had to return home before the tourney was finished. As a result, he was placed second, with L. Fell (NSW) winning the title.
He won the three succeeding tourneys which were held in 1952 (Melbourne) 1954 (Hobart) and 1956 (Hobart). "

Danny, do you have on-line or library access in Australia to the Melbourne Weekly Times ?
The Draughts column in it ran for more than 70 years and is full of interesting material.

So he knows the results, the games and the players that were active at that time.

Richard Chamberlain is still active in TV, plays, and movies. For his life's work he received der Steiger Award
in 2011. I don't know if he is related to the Australian Champion. --George Hay

great link Liam, the National Library has a lot of information on draughts.... i am hoping to make a little trip there this year. well little is relative , it is more than 1100 kilometres to Canberra from Brisbane. to put it in perspective you could go from London to Milan and have a couple of hundred kilometres to spare.... or go from Wales to San Remo ...
