Post by Ingo_Zachos »

The match of this year will be played at San Giovanno Rotondo on July 15 - July 20th.

They will play 24 games.
In case of a tie after 24 games, Ron King retains his title by virtue of being undefeated.

There will be a live stream:

and there is media coverage and much more on the facebook site of Dama Foggia:

as well as of course on the site of the FID:

Who do you think will win and by how much points?

I hereby declare this topic open ;-)

Chances for both are 50% because there are only 2 possibilities - win title or not win :D :D :D :D :D

King will just play for draws, but I think Sergio knows this. He is going to have to go into some unfamiliar lines against him to have any chance.

This is mathematically not correct, as there are more then two possible scores, and as a tie favors Ron King, this makes a small mathematical advantage of a little more then 51 per cent that he wins to 49 per cent to Sergio Scarpetta.

In a 40 game match the advantage is only at abt. 50.6 percent, but as long as a tie is sufficent to keep the title, while it takes a match victory to win the title, the title holder always keeps a small advantage from the start.

I expect a very tight match and I believe, in contrast to Alex Moiseyev, that is it still possible to get the opponent into unfamiliar lines. not unfamiliar openings, but unfamiliar lines.

Everything depends on your own opening choice, and not on the luck factor of a balloted opening.

Ingo, I am aware of two events by the end of match:

1) Ron has title
2) Sergio has title

If you think as result of match me, you or someone else get title - then you right.

Anyway - it is a sunny day in Dublin and number of unfamiliar GAYP lines is relatively small here :D :D :D

Personally I like to to play scientific game with many possibilities, not a game of "personal choice" like tick-tack-toe :D Ha-Ha

Maybe players should pay a small penalty every time they play 11-15 in GAYP ? These money can be used to promote 3-moves.

According to Jonathon Schaeffer there are over 500,000,000,000,000,000,000 (5 hundred billion billion) possible checker positions.

I would say that he could get King into some unfamiliar lines lol.

I won't be surprise alot if beginning of match will be delay by 1 day and starts on Tuesday. Typical, standard Suki trick in attempt to lower opponent psychological stamina.

Hello everyone,
my match starts Monday at 9 or 10 am (Italian local time), one day late on schedule. Mr. King is arriving in Italy tonight, he had some problems with his flight. Who wants to watch the match, there will be a live broadcast. Here's the link: http://www.stickam.com/giacomelli

Thank you very much, Sergio,

I hope that from tomorrow on we will see a thrilling match on a high level.

To those who can`t wait, here is the link to the games of the 2008 match King-Kondlo, that Ron only won in the last match when Lubabalo Kondlo went all in :

and the games of the 2006 King - Morrison match:

the games of the 2010 King-Beckwith are not fully available, but here are the three decided games:

Who wants to know more should buy the excellent match book, written and sold by Richard Beckwith.

BTW:

The only encounter between these two was a draw played in the San Remo Open, held prior to the World Qualifier.
In that event both remained unbeaten, Ron King finishing 2nd by the toss of a coin to Richard Beckwith, while Sergio was close behind at 3rd place.
