The 109th Annual Illinois State April 5 & 6

Post by JR Smith »

The 109th Annual Illinois State Checker Tournament will be held Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th, 2013 in Marion, IL, at the Illinois Centre Mall food court.

A recommended hotel is the Super 8 Motel at 2601 De Young, Marion, IL, 62959. phone 618-993-5577. The Super 8 is located to the left off the first stop light West of Exit 54 B coming off the Interstate I-57. Room rates are $52.00 plus tax. The Illinois Centre Mall is located West of Intersection I-57 and IL State Highway 13 (Exit 54B) Marion, Illinois 62959 (map). Travel west on IL 13 ( W Deyoung Street) about 1.5 miles to enter the mall. The mall is located at the third stop light west of the same interstate exit. You turn right at this third stop light and go to the back of the mall toward the Target parking. Park in the lot before Target and the door will lead to the food court where we will be playing. The food court entrance is on the north side near Target.

Registration on Saturday begins at 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. with a business meeting at 9:00 a.m. and play beginning shortly after a 9:45 a.m. . There will be four rounds played on Saturday and 3 rounds on Sunday; 3-move restriction with pairing by a modified Swiss system. We hope to have enough players for a "C" division to attract beginners. Entry fee is $10.00

I hope everyone considers coming to our tournament. We have had fairly decent turn outs, and I've spoken to a few players and there should be ample competition available for everyone! Hopefully the community is in good health and will be able to make it this year. The IL State tournament averages around 30 players per year, and we would love to see an increase!

This tournament is always an excellent tournament. I wish I could be there this year, but have moved to North Dakota and it is just too far for a 77 year old! I will always remember my good checker playing friend, Gayle Helterbrand who would arrive in his little red car!! I miss Gayle and we had played a lot in tourneys over the years. He could come up with the most unorthodox shots!!

Will try to do my best tomorrow to get there but TV weather channel is crazy - tornado warning, rain, water flooding, strong wind. But nothing can stop us on our way to play checkers :D

J.R. ,

Is there a problem with the link for Results on this tournament? I get an error message when I try to view the Results at NC checkers.

Best regards,
Wayne

I am also wondering and curious about tourney processing and final standing table. I finished 1st with 22 points but I even don't know for sue who was 2nd - Larry, or tie or someone else.
