So far I didn't lose any single game in 2018, but in few games I was in lost.

Here is one of them …

A. Moiseyev vs J. Moore
Rd.4, G1

White to move.

Joe played the whole game exceptionally well and was awarded by this man up easy winning position. Easy ? My last move was 26-23 and Joe played 18-14?? After 12-16* draw was agreed.

2. Moore, Joe (PA) 17
3. Beckwith, Rich (OH) 16
4. Millhone, Alan (OH) 15

Prize Fund was $800 (coming mostly from Joe LoConti and Joe McDaniel -- thanks to those two once again!)

It was about that time in the game when I started to feel a bit relaxed and was wondering why you weren't resigning. Should not have had that mindset knowing the strength of your endgame. Just took my eye off the ball for one move and it cost me.

It's funny because I was looking at this endgame diagram of the game between Alex and Joe thinking that I should remember this theme in case it ever comes up in a game. And then last week, after a midgame slip-up, I ended up in this position as Red to move:

Image

I made the 12-16 move thinking that I had saved the day. I think my opponent went 14-10, but I stopped recording. We agreed to a draw a couple of moves later.

However, what neither of us saw was

12-16 14-9!
5x14 24-20
16-19 6-10
23-18 10x17
18-15 29-25

I'm assuming that this leads to a long WW, but I'm not positive.
