The position that never was!

On Google search images try Marion Tinsley v Derek Oldbury 1958.

There is an excellent black-and-white photograph there. It appears that DEO is about to play 21-17. (In fact, he has just played 25-22.)

Naturally I wondered which game this related to. None.

It actually arises from 12-16 24-20; 8-12 28-24; 3-8 22-18; 16-19 24-15; 10-19 23-16; 12-19 25-22 and was clearly staged.

Ah well. Still a great photograph.
