Draws for FIFA World Cup 2006

Post by Guest »

I hope this is the right section to post such a subject. I remember I brought up a world cup subject in the BBS a few weeks ago and it turned into a great conversation...mostly because of the nice amount of players around the world (UK, Germany, Etc) who have a passion for football. So, now that the draws are out, I'll post them here and anyone can respond with their thoughts/predictions :)

* = Team I think makes it through to Last 16

Group A
Germany*
Poland
Ecuador*
Costa Rica

Group B
England*
Paraguay
Sweden*
Trinidad

Group C
Argentina*
Ivory Coast
Netherlands*
Serbia

Group D
Angola
Iran - Will be a suprise team, may upset either Mexico or Portugal
Mexico*
Portugal*

Group E
Ghana
Czech Rep
USA*
Italy*

Group F
Australia
Brazil*
Croatia*
Japan

Group G
France*
South Korea
Switzerland*
Togo

Group H
Ukraine*
Saudi Arabia
Spain*
Tunisia

I think it will be a repeat of 2002 finals, Germany vs Brazil, with Brazil winning again. 1998(France, 1st place) and 2002(Korea, Semifinals!!!) has shown me the home field advantage is key for the teams success. So I feel Germany will be successful and lucky :D . USA will have a hard time getting out of the group but I think they will beat either Czech or Italy in their 1st two games and then beat Ghana to get through. I pick England to make the Semi's.

Starts June 9th!!! Go USA!

On my part I can bet that Chroatia & USA have very good chances to go through.

I respect that finals pick. I was very close to picking Germany as well. Overall I don't think they are the top team or even top 4, but they are home :( I like that you picked Iran to go through too, but I would say Mexico makes it through either way.
