Man World Qualify Tournament 2007

Post by Alex_Moiseyev »

I just read an announcement and was very surprised and disappointed.

Small number of rounds (only 8 ) was seriously criticised this year, 2006. And now we have them again for 2007 and this time for GAYP !

I don't understand - directors don't have enough money to cover an extra day, or they are just copying 2006 event format without much thinking ? :laughing5:

Time control must be 45-60 minutes to each partner to the rest of game, and we can play 3 rounds (6 games a day), in total - 15 rounds during 5 days - normal Robin Round format.

Or we also can play on Saturday and make it a bit easy.

But Robin Round is absolutely necessary. Swiss system is ridiculous and must be forgetten for such calibre events.

Hey, Jerry / Kim and WCDF officials, do you hear me ? :D

Hmm 6 games of 2 hours thats 12 hours of play time plus breaks - what is that 15-20 hours each day ?????

While swiss system is ridiculously unfair your suggestion seems alot worse :). Also what if 20 people show up - oh I know 7 games of 2 hours each day - who needs sleep anyway :D

12-15 hours is OK. Thats what we usually have in USA Nationals.

The tentative rules posted on the calendar are more-or-less copied from last year. I also suggested possibility of a 9th round on Friday, as we did in Prague in 2005. But I guess Friday was left open in Stonehaven in case of worst-case scenario of a tie for first-place, as ample playoff time is needed before people have to catch their departing flights.

I agree round-robin is fairest, but can be difficult to plan when you don't know how many will compete.

I suspect the "2 rounds a day" originates from the European mindset of allowing "social time" during the week. In contrast, I anticipate we will have ~13 two-game rounds at next year's National's, which will be more intense. I can't say that either approach is right or wrong, but I have heard second-hand that the more intense schedules are not as attractive to European players, whom we want to draw over here.
